Happy International Children’s Book Day! (Well, for yesterday – I’m a day late)
April 2nd each year is International Children’s Book Day – chosen because it was Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday. Arguable the most famous children’s author of all time, known for his fairytales like The Little Mermaid and The Emperor’s New Clothes. It’s a day to inspire a love of reading and celebrate the important role of children’s books. What better day to start a blog all about children’s books with big hearts and messages to match.
As an aspiring children’s author, who loves to write stories with positive and encouraging messages that celebrate difference, I’ll be sharing published picture books I admire for doing just that. I love the ability of picture books to teach children (and grown ups) important messages in a way that speaks to them with humour and compassion. You can follow my instagram picture book blog, Little Books with BIG Hearts for regular reviews, and see me have fun photographing these brilliant books in themed compositions.
My blog is a celebration of great children’s picture books that inspire, encourage and offer insight on a range of topics. Featuring both brand new releases and timeless picture books by local Australian and international authors and illustrators. The books will also be listed on this website so that parents, carers and educators can search under a specific theme, like books about friendship, peace, the environment, following your dreams, being yourself etc. I will add to this list of themes throughout the year and hope this page will become a useful resource in schools and homes.
I love giving books as gifts and have often been told by friends, ‘you find the best picture books’, so I hope this page might also help you find the perfect gift for someone special.
Happy reading and discovering!
